Showcase Project
In preparing for my showcase project I successfully completed the "Instructional Design for E-Learning" course through Udemy and the inLearning Course: "ID Essentials: Models of ID" where I gained an understanding of instructional design frameworks such as ADDIE and other instructional design models. The course also covered relevant learning theories and introduced me to rapid authoring tools, including Articulate 360. I applied this knowledge by creating my first independent instructional design showcase project using Articulate RISE 360.
The objective of this project was to apply the knowledge gained from my instructional design courses and showcase my ability to create a sample course using Rise 360. I aimed to demonstrate my skills in designing visually appealing, engaging, and effective course content. I utilized the ADDIE framework and consulted with teacher colleagues as SMEs and relevant articles to serve as subject matter experts.

Working on this project was a fun way to bring together what I learned in my instructional design course with my background in graphic design and art education. Using Rise 360, I focused on creating a course that was not only visually appealing but also engaging and easy to navigate. I paid close attention to things like colors, typography, and imagery to make sure everything felt polished and professional. Adding interactive elements was especially exciting because it brought the content to life and helped keep learners interested.
In my current role as an art educator, I regularly create modules for students, as well as training videos and job aids, but this project gave me a unique opportunity to focus on design and one focused objective. Having the time to dive into the aesthetics, user experience, and content made a difference in creating something solid that I can proudly share. I relied on the ADDIE framework and consulted teacher colleagues as SMEs and articles to make sure the content was relevant, keeping the needs of a diverse adult audience in mind.
This project was a great way to show how my creative and instructional skills come together. It’s been a rewarding experience to focus so much on both the look and effectiveness of the course, and it reinforced how much I enjoy designing learning experiences that are educational, engaging, and visually dynamic. I know I have much to learn, and I look forward to looking back fondly at this portfolio project with years of development in the ID field in the future.

All artists know that the key to growth and improvement lies in a critical eye, constantly looking for areas for growth. With that as my jumping off point, I ‘m providing a few of my personal critiques looking back at this project. Although I am critiquing my work, I do feel that my skills are at the right level and that peer review and collaboration in an agile workflow can help iron out the kinks.
I created a slideshow to document the steps involved in designing this course, which included information organization charts, research notes, and the design process. Unfortunately, the slideshow was lost. I’ve re-created it as best as I can.
Additionally, I would like to provide feedback on my acting performance in the course video. I feel that my voice tone and facial expressions did not effectively convey the intended message. In a professional instructional design role, I would collaborate with colleagues to produce higher-quality videos, and potentially hire actors to ensure a more polished result. One other note is that in filming, I did not realize how loud my dog’s nails would be in the audio. In the future, I would ensure that my pets were not inside during filming.
I also intended to share a link to the course, but due to the limitations of the free trial version of the course design software, I had to record a course playthrough instead. While I found Rise 360 to be intuitive and similar to other learning management systems I have used, I noticed that it lacks some of the features offered by Articulate. In the future, I would be eager to utilize those additional features to enhance the learning experience for users.
Looking ahead, I would consider adjusting the summative assessment style to gather more concrete data on learner performance. One possibility is having learners submit a sample call to better demonstrate their understanding and application of the material.
